Stephen Bickler, MD, a surgeon at Rady Children’s Hospital and clinical professor of surgery and pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, discusses the lack of surgical care plaguing 2 billion people worldwide. Lack of surgical care costs 5 million people their lives every year. The Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care: Building Sustainable Surgical Systems will be held Nov. 9 to Nov. 11 to address this problem.
